Today I thought I would write a short post and list some non renewable energy sources for my readers. Oftentimes people are confused about which energy sources are renewable and which aren’t. I hope to clear this up for you today with this article.
Before I give you the list, let me share my definition of a nonrenewable energy source with you:
“Any source of energy that is finite – meaning that it will eventually run out and the raw material for generating the energy cannot be replenished.”
Non Renewable Energy Sources List
- Coal – While this is a source of energy that is provided by the earth, it will eventually run out.
- Oil – Another naturally occurring source of energy that only exists in limited quantities on earth.
- Nuclear – The raw material required for generating nuclear energy is uranium which only exists in limited quantities.
- Natural Gas – Even though this is a gas that is provided by nature, when it’s gone, it’s gone. With our current technology, there’s no way to make more.
Does Anything Stand Out To You About This List?
Did you realize after reading this list that all four of the non-renewable sources of energy make up the bulk of the electricity that we currently consume. I hope this is a startling eye opener to you because unless we as a society of energy consumers make some major changes, an energy shortage in the not too distant future is inevitable.
Many people chose to bury their heads in the sand and pretend that everything is fine but it’s really not. As the total population of the earth continues to grow at an exponential rate, our reserves of fossil fuels and uranium will be consumed at an exponential rate. This means that the urgency to do something about this problem needs to be understood by everyone. This isn’t just an issue for the “tree hugger” crowd to get behind. We all need to!
If you’re looking for a list of renewable energy sources, you might want to read another article that I’ve posted here at BooneyLiving.com which is called: A Comprehensive List Of Alternative Energy Sources.
